Cost: Free

Times: Varies by branch. The East Cobb location is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 am to 8 pm; Thursday through Saturday, 11 am to 6 pm; closed Sunday.

Locations: There are 17 branches of the Cobb County Public Library system. East Cobb locations include the East Cobb Branch, 4880 Lower Roswell Rd., Suite 510-B, Marietta, Georgia 30068; the Mountain View Branch, 3320 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, GA 30066; the East Marietta Branch, 2051 Lower Roswell Rd., Marietta, Georgia 30068; and the Gritters Branch, 880 Shaw Park Road, Marietta, Georgia 30066.

Seasonal: Although the libraries are open year-round, there are many more kids’ activities during the summer than during the school year.

Kelly’s Comments: As a school librarian, I am a big proponent of the public library system. Each branch offers baby, toddler, and preschool storytimes year-round, generally at different days and times, so if your closest branch doesn’t meet your needs or schedule, you can easily go to a different location. There is, of course, the Summer Reading Program, which concludes with a celebration at the Central Library branch. During the summer, and occasionally during the school year, there are movies, clubs, and art activities for the school-aged set. There is a great Graphic Novel & Anime club for middle and high schoolers at the Gritters branch. Some summertime activities require pre-registration; check the calendar of activities on the CobbCat website. Older kids (and adults!) can check out books for their e-readers through the library’s Overdrive account without stepping foot inside a physical library (although, of course, you know you want to). You can also check out a host of DVDs to entertain your monkeys, as well as non-book items like an Atlanta Zoo pass or a Georgia State Parks pass.
